The short version

We collect what you type into a form. We store one thing in your browser, which is your own answer to the consent question, and it never leaves your device. There are no analytics on this site, no tag manager, no advertising pixels and no tracking cookies. We do not sell, rent or trade your information to anybody, and we never have.

What we collect

When you submit a form

The forms on this site ask for your name and email address, and depending on which form you use, some of the following: a phone number, an organisation or school name, your role, a group size and age range, possible dates, a location, a website or social handle, details about an animal, and whatever you write in the message field.

You choose what to put in those fields. Please do not put anything in a message box that you would not want stored in an email inbox. We do not ask for payment details, government identification or health information anywhere on this site, and you should not send them to us through it.

When you just read the site

We do not run any analytics, so we do not know that you were here, which pages you looked at, or where you came from. There is no tag manager and no advertising pixel on any page.

Our web host keeps standard server logs, as effectively every web host does. Those typically include IP addresses and page requests, and they exist for keeping the site running and secure rather than for building any profile of you.

What is stored in your browser

One item, and it is the record of a choice you made.

Why	It remembers whether you allowed the embedded video player to load, so the site does not ask you again on every page.
What is in it	Your yes or no. Nothing that identifies you, and no record of what you looked at.
Where it goes	Nowhere. It is never transmitted and the zoo cannot see it. It sits on the device you are reading this on.
Getting rid of it	Open the consent manager using the button at the bottom left of any page and choose Reset, or clear site data in your browser. Either removes it completely.

That is the entire list. We set no cookies of our own, and nothing else on this site writes to your device.

The consent manager

The round button at the bottom left of every page opens the consent manager. It lists every third party this site can embed, with a switch for each one, a link to that company's own privacy policy, and buttons to allow everything, deny everything, or reset your answer.

It starts at denied. Nothing third-party embeds itself until you say yes, which is the opposite of how most sites work, and it is deliberate.

One thing in that dialog has no switch, and we say so in the dialog itself. The typeface is fetched from Google's servers before any script on the page has run, so a switch there would be decoration rather than a control. It is explained under fonts below.

Where your information goes

A submitted form is sent to two places at once, so a message is not lost if one route fails:

• GoHighLevel, the customer relationship system this organisation uses, where it becomes a contact record so somebody can reply to you. Their privacy policy.
• FormSubmit, a form-forwarding service, which sends a copy to our email inbox. Their privacy policy.

If you make a donation you leave this website and complete it on Zeffy, which processes the payment and issues your receipt. We never see, store or have access to your card or bank details. Their privacy policy. What we do with donor information once it reaches us is set out separately on our donor privacy policy.

All three are independent companies with their own privacy practices and their own security. We do not control what they do internally, which is exactly why we do not ask you for anything sensitive through this website.

What else loads on these pages

• Google Fonts serves Fraunces, the single typeface this site uses. Loading it makes a request to Google's servers, and that request carries your IP address, as every request to any server does. We send Google nothing else, and there is no Google analytics, no Google Tag Manager and no advertising product anywhere on this site. Google's privacy policy.
• A content delivery network serves the photographs. It receives the same kind of request a web host receives.
• Links to Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Twitch are ordinary links. There are no embedded social widgets, no follow buttons that phone home and no like boxes, so those platforms learn nothing about you unless you click through to them.
• An embedded YouTube video, which sits behind two gates. It does not load until you have allowed it in the consent manager, and then it still does not load until you press play. The still image you see before that is served by us. When it does load it uses YouTube's no-cookie player. Google's privacy policy.

Photographs at events and programmes

We take photographs and video at public events, fundraisers and school programmes, and we use them on this website and on our social media accounts to show what the zoo does.

If you would rather not be photographed at an event, tell any member of the team on the day and that is the end of it. If a photograph of you is already published and you want it taken down, email us and we will remove it. You do not have to give a reason.

Children in photographs

Some of the young people who have sponsored this zoo are named and pictured on our sponsors page. They are there because they gave, and being thanked publicly is what the zoo thanked every other sponsor with. Each of them was already named and photographed in the zoo's own thank-you posts before this website existed.

If you are a parent or guardian and you would rather your child was not listed on a public website, tell us and they come down the same day. You do not have to give a reason and nobody will ask for one. The same applies to any photograph of your child anywhere on this site.

Beyond that, we do not name or identify a child on this website. A photograph taken at a public event is not a licence to publish somebody's name alongside it, and we treat those as two separate questions.

For school and youth-group programmes, photography is arranged through the school or the organisation running the group, under their own consent process, rather than by us asking children directly.

Children's information

This website is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. Bookings for schools and youth groups are made by an adult on behalf of the group, and we do not ask for information about individual students.

If you believe a child has sent us information through this site, tell us and we will delete it and confirm to you that it is gone.

How long we keep things

An enquiry is kept while we are dealing with it, and for as long as the relationship it started is a live one. A booking is kept as a record of what was agreed. Donation records are kept because charity accounting requires it, and those we cannot delete on request, although we will tell you exactly which part is being kept and why.

Anything else, we delete when you ask.

How it is kept

Form submissions land in a customer relationship system and an email inbox, both password-protected and reachable by the small number of people running the zoo. Access is limited to people who need it, and volunteers do not get access to contact or donor records by default.

No system is perfectly secure and we are not going to claim ours is. What we can tell you honestly is that we hold very little, we ask for nothing sensitive, and we never touch payment details.

What we never do

• Sell, rent, trade or swap your information, to anyone, for any reason
• Add you to a mailing list you did not ask to join
• Use your details for anything other than answering you and, if you asked us to, keeping in touch about the thing you contacted us about
• Let a third party track you across other websites from here

Your choices and your rights

Write to [email protected] and you can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to stop contacting you, or ask us to delete it. There is no form and no process. Ask and it is done, and we will confirm when it has been.

If you live in Nevada

Nevada law gives consumers the right to tell a website operator not to sell their personal information, and it requires us to give you an address for making that request even though we do not sell anything.

• Our designated request address is [email protected]. Put "Nevada opt-out" in the subject line and we will respond within 60 days, which is the period the statute allows.
• We do not sell your information and never have, so making that request costs you nothing and changes nothing about how we treat you.
• No third party collects information about your activity across other websites from this one. There is no advertising network, no retargeting pixel and no cross-site tracker anywhere on this site. The third parties named above receive only what is described above, at the moment you use the thing they power.

If you are somewhere else

If you are reading this from outside the United States, your information is handled in the United States, where this organisation and its systems are. You have the same practical rights as everybody else here: ask us what we hold, ask us to fix it, ask us to delete it, and we will.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the change is made on the same day the thing it describes changes rather than afterwards. If it changes in a way that affects information you have already given us, we will contact you directly rather than relying on you rereading this page.
