Using this site

You are welcome to read it, share it, link to it and quote it. Please do not attempt to break it, scrape it at a volume that affects other people, or use it to send us anything abusive or unlawful through the forms.

Information about animals

This is the part worth reading properly.

Species information

The conservation status, native range, lifespan and biology on this site are drawn from published sources and are given for education. They can change, and an IUCN listing that is current today may be revised.

Husbandry

Where this site describes how an animal should be housed, it is explaining why we keep ours the way we do. It is not a care sheet and it is not sufficient to keep an animal on. If you are taking on a reptile, amphibian or invertebrate, get species-specific guidance from a keeper or a veterinarian who knows that species.

Found animals and wildlife

Our Found a Reptile? page summarises guidance published by the Nevada Department of Wildlife and Clark County, and links to both so you can read the originals. Those agencies are the authority, not us. Laws protecting the Mojave desert tortoise are federal and state law, and it is your responsibility to comply with them. If a phone number or a programme on that page has changed, the linked source is correct and we are not.

Veterinary and medical

Nothing on this site is veterinary advice for your animal or medical advice for you. If an animal is unwell, call a vet who treats that species.

Bookings and enquiries

Submitting a booking request does not confirm a booking. We do not auto-confirm dates, because live animals, a small team and Las Vegas heat mean a date has to be checked before it is promised. A booking exists when we have confirmed it to you directly.

Programmes with live animals

This is the part of our work that carries real risk, so it is written out plainly rather than buried.

Our programmes involve live reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. Where an animal is handled, it happens under the direction of our staff, and their instructions on the day are the rule. Any animal can move unpredictably, and contact with animals carries a risk of scratches, bites and of germs such as salmonella, which reptiles and amphibians commonly carry without appearing unwell at all. Hand washing after contact is not optional and we will provide the means to do it.

Nobody has to touch anything. Every programme works just as well watching, and we would far rather somebody watched than felt pushed.

If you are booking for a school, a group or an event, the specific terms for that booking, including who is responsible for supervision and what each side has agreed to, are set out in the booking confirmation we send you. Those terms govern the booking. This page governs the website.

Tell us in advance about allergies, a compromised immune system, a pregnancy in the group, or anything else that changes what is sensible, and we will run the session around it. We would rather know beforehand than afterwards.

Donations

Gifts to Las Vegas Reptile Zoo support the organisation's work generally. Where you have given toward something specific, such as sponsoring a named animal, we apply it to that. We are not currently making any statement about the tax treatment of gifts; see donor privacy and transparency for where that will be published.

Photographs and content

The photographs, text and design on this site belong to Las Vegas Reptile Zoo or are used with permission. Share and link freely. For reuse in a publication, a commercial project or anything where attribution matters, ask us first and we will almost certainly say yes.

Photography at our events

We photograph at events and programmes and use those photographs on this site and on our social media. How that works, how to decline, how to have a photograph removed, and the separate rules that apply to children, are set out in our privacy policy.

Accessibility

If any part of this site or any of our programmes is not usable for you, our accessibility statement sets out what we have done, what we know is not right yet, and how to tell us. We answer those within five working days.

Links out

We link to agencies, organisations and social platforms. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for what is on them.

Availability

We try to keep the site up and accurate. It is run by a small nonprofit, so it will occasionally be down or out of date, and it is provided as it is.

Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them.

Governing law

Las Vegas Reptile Zoo is a nonprofit corporation organised in Nevada and operating in Nevada, and these terms are governed by Nevada law. Anything that cannot be sorted out directly belongs in the state or federal courts sitting in Clark County, Nevada.

If a court decides some part of these terms cannot stand, the rest of them still do.

The limits of what we promise

This website is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error free, or that every piece of information on it is current, and we are not liable for a decision you make on the basis of something you read here. That is not us trying to escape responsibility for our work with animals or with the people who book us, which is covered by the terms of the booking itself. It is about a website run by a small nonprofit.

Nothing here limits anything that cannot lawfully be limited.
